Unique Ultrasound has a great opportunity coming up soon for Doulas and Midwives in Temecula and Murrieta!

Doula - Birth Coaching

Doula comes from a Greek word that means “a woman who serves” or “handmaiden.” While most births are attended by the Dads or birthing partner, Doulas can be a great physical, emotional and informational support during labor and birth as well as provide postpartum care at home.

Having a woman present during labor that has attended several births and is in tune with your body during every stage of labor is comforting and very supporting for Mom and the birthing partner. Coaching you along your labor journey, Doulas are a continuous comfort for relaxation, movement, position and breathing. They also are an advocate for Mom and helps facilitate communication between the care provider and the parents.

A study conducted showed that women who have a Doula present during labor and birth were more likely to have spontaneous vaginal birth and less likely to have any pain medication, epidurals, vacuum or forceps-assisted births, and C-Sections. Not only were the baby's Apgar scores higher but it also showed that the labors were shorter.

Hiring a Midwife

While Doulas play more of a coaching role a Midwife provides advice, care and support for women and their babies during pregnancy, labor and the postnatal period. Midwifes are qualified health care professionals who provide gynecological exams, counseling and education for their patients.

Midwifes go through comprehensive training and exams for certification. The practice and credentials related to midwifery differ throughout the United States and certification is offered by the American College of Nurse Midwives (ACNM) and the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM). Choosing a Midwife for your pregnancy and birth replaces the OB. Their expert care continues and they only refer to a hospital or obstetricians if there are medical complications for mom or baby.
